Sometimes your client doesn’t want to use a “Search Window”. They just want to type it in the field and the relationship sets up automatically. The problem is that you have to have the name match exactly with existing records. The second problem is that you have to have a script trigger to set the ID because you don’t want to have the ID to be defined as a lookup based on the name. Solution: auto-complete based on a value list allows the user to type in the name exactly, the OnObjectSave trigger checks via relationship to make sure there is a related contact and sets the ID to define the relationship. Clients who want to keep their fingers on their keyboards really like this.
